From 23 -25 Sep the 3rd annual Marshall Center Alumni Association for Southeast European Security (MCAASEES) met in Bucharest. Co-hosted by the joint Presidency of Romania and Moldova, the event saw the opening addresses given by a number of disguished alumni to include Mr. Valeriu Zgonea, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, Romania.
This year the association discussed 'Emerging Security Issues in Southeast Europe and the Wider Black Sea Area.' High on the agenda were recent events in Ukraine, refugee issues, the nexus of transnational crime and terrorism and the increasing need for cyber security. Thirty-eight alumni representing Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and the Ukraine attended the annual event.
The two-day event ended with a business meeting to discuss each associations' past activities for this year, to share their lessons learned and to share their future plans. As well the new co-Presidency for 2016 was announced which will be Albania and Serbia with Slovenia taking on the Vice-Presidency role.
Macedonian representatives to the meeting were prof. Dr. Stojan Slaveski and COL Mitko Saraliev.
